Junior Sports Achievement Awards

The Junior Sports Achievement Awards is an annual event that is organised by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and the Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership with trophies and medals for winners in each of the eleven categories.

The 2008/2009 Junior Sports Achievement Awards took place on Thursday 19 November 2009 at the Royal Victoria Hall in Southborough.

Results

The awards, which recognise those people who have contributed to sport in some way, either through their own sporting success or through their work assisting others involved in sport, are sponsored by Fusion Lifestyle, King Charles' School Old Boys’ Association, Daisy Fletcher, Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership and Tunbridge Wells Borough Council and Grays International. Selected nominees also received training grants to assist them with future competition and training expenses.

Representatives of the Tunbridge Wells Borough Council's Leisure Services and Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership judged the nominations which included participants from 14 different sports including judo, netball, gymnastics, table tennis, 10 pin bolwing, finswimming and cricket.

What the panel of judges considered

Consideration was given to a variety of factors:

  • effort and improvement from September 2008 - September 2009 
  • attitude and disposition
  • contribution to others and commitment towards the sport
  • sporting 'role model'
  • actual sporting achievement in 2008/2009

Fusion Lifestyle Individual Achiever Award

The Fusion Individual Sports Achiever Awards recognise sporting excellence at school, club or other associated body, whether at local, district, county, regional or national level.

Zoe Boulderstone

12 years & under
Winner: Zoe Boulderstone, Judo

 

Lewis Gray

16 years & under
Winner: Lewis Gray, Table Tennis

 

Calum Gallie

21 years & under
Winner: Calum Gallie, Judo

 

Fusion Team of the Year Award
The team must compete at under 21 level or younger and be a club, school or other recognised body that is based within the borough of Tunbridge Wells. The team must have achieved sporting excellence in their field.

The Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership School Awards

School team awards recognise the achievements of teams competing at local, county, regional and national level. Schools must be a member of the Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership.

Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School Under 14s Netball Team

Secondary School Team Award:
Winners: Tunbridge Wells Girls Grammar School Under 14s Netball Team

Special School Team Award:
Winners: Broomhill Bank Sportshall Athletics Team

 

Tunbridge Wells School Sports Partnership Sports Leader of the Year Award

The Sports Leader of the Year Award recognises students in full time education that have undertaken relevant leadership training. They will be nominated for their commitment and skill in working with young people in PE and sport on a voluntary basis.

Rosie Langley

Winner: Rosie Langley, Angley School

 

The Daisy Fletcher Award for Overcoming Adversity

Individuals nominated for this award are young sports performers who have gained exceptional personal achievements in their chosen sport or activity by overcoming their personal difficulties, which may be a disability or home circumstances etc. The winner was presented with the ‘Daisy Fletcher Shield’.

Claire Hollands

Outstanding Service to Sport / School Sport Award

The recipients of the awards for Outstanding Service to Sport / School Sport will have been nominated for their exceptional effort and enthusiasm supporting young sports people in local clubs and schools.

Marion Jenkins

Paul Gower

Winner of the Outstanding Service to Sport: Paul Gower, Cranbrook Town Football Club

 

Training Grants
A number of training grants funded by Tunbridge Wells Borough Council, Fusion Lifestyle,  the King Charles’ School Old Boys’ Association  were awarded to selected nominees who the judges considered had achieved sporting excellence at club, county, regional or national level or had attended Centres of Excellence locally. The grants were awarded to help with training and competition expenses in 2009/2010.

They were awarded to:

Zoe Boulderstone (Judo), Lewis Gray (Table Tennis), Rebecca Luke (10 pin bowling), Lauren Sears (Trampolining), Ryan Court (Judo),  Beth Fraser (Finswimming), Amber Boulderstone (Judo), Claire Hollands (Athletics), Calum Gallie (Judo).
