2011 Census - Sunday 27 March 2011
Help tomorrow take
shape!
Every ten years the Office for National
Statistics (ONS) sets aside one day for the census, which is a
count of all people who live in England and Wales.
The next census will take place on
Sunday 27 March 2011
The census is a survey which
asks questions about the people living within each household and
looks at details such as your age, work, health, education,
national identity, marital status and religion. These statistics
help to build a picture of our borough population and provide
information on the make-up of local neighbourhoods.
Why is it
important?
Like all authorities in England and Wales,
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council relies on census population
statistics to get the government funding we need for public
services. How much we receive is directly related to how many and
the kind of people the census says are living in our area.
Therefore it is essential for all people (households) to complete
the census survey. The census needs to include everyone, everywhere
and that's why everyone has to take part.
What you need to do?
In
March 2011, once you have received the survey, you will need to
answer just a few questions about yourself and the people who share
your household with you on census day. Everything you tell the
census is in the strictest confidence and will only be used to
produce statistics. The Office for National Statistics will not
share your personal information with any other government
department or organisation, including Tunbridge Wells Borough
Council.
You can complete the census online. You can
complete it by post, but you must complete the questionnaire and
return it as soon as possible after the census.
The census needs everyone to take part in
helping tomorrow take shape - and this is your chance to make a
difference.
