Christmas Tea Dance

The Tunbridge Wells Borough Council Tea Dances are one of the most successful activities the Healthier Communities Team organises. The dances began in April 2009, and have successfully been held every month since. Over the course of nine dances, there have been a total of 715 people in attendance.

For the last dance before the festive holiday the Team arranged a ‘Christmas Special’. This tea dance included a charity raffle; prize donations to the raffle came in from Assembly Hall Theatre (two tickets to Johan Strauss Gala), Eastbourne Tea Dances at the Winter Gardens (two tickets to their January Tea Dance), Sarah Domoney, local fitness instructor, donated four free keep fit classes for over fifties, the Medway School of Dance donated a free private dance lesson for two along with some extra prizes from Tunbridge Wells Museum and Art Gallery.

The £110 proceeds from the raffle were totalled up and a final ticket was drawn. The ‘owner’ of that ticket was then asked to choose a charity for the money to be donated to. The winner chose for the money to go to Dorton House School for the Blind in Seal near Sevenoaks.

Tea Dances take place on the last Thursday of the month from 2.30 – 5pm at the Camden Centre, Tunbridge Wells. Live music and entertainment is regularly provided by the talented organist Chris Mannion.

All dances are free of charge at the moment.

The next tea dance will be April 2010. Advanced booking is essential for all tea dances, contact the Healthier Communities Team on 01892 554411, or email health@tunbridgewells.gov.uk.
