‘Kent Savers’ is a credit union for the people of Kent
is now up and running live across the County of Kent for
all people requiring an ethical savings and loan service. It has
had the largest initial take-up of savings accounts and loan
applications of any previous Credit Union in the UK.
Kent Savers is a Credit Union. This means it is a financial
co-operative owned and controlled by its members and running on a
not-for-profit basis. Its main aims are to promote savings
and provide its members with loans
at reasonable rates, so that they feel in control of their own
money.
It is considered a safer and cheaper alternative to other money
lending sources, including payday loans, doorstep lenders and loan
sharks, and more accessible than high street banks, who can make it
difficult for people with a poor credit history to borrow
money.
Every credit union must have a common bond. Kent Savers is one
that is here for everyone living and/or working in Kent. It aims to
help revive the local economy by keeping money in the local Kent
community – after all, loans to members can mean income for local
shops and businesses.
Kent Savers is authorised and regulated by the Financial Services
Authority.
Deposits are protected by the Financial Services Compensation
Scheme.
You must live or work within our common bond, that is the
historical county of Kent, ie the area currently administered by
Kent County Council and / or Medway Unitary Authority.
