Many enforcement complaints are made by local residents. We also discover planning breaches whilst monitoring compliance with conditions.

Breaches of Planning Control Include:

  • Unapproved works to a listed building
  • Unapproved works to a protected tree
  • Non compliance with approved plans
  • Non compliance with conditions imposed on approved plans
  • Unauthorised development or changes of use of land or buildings
  • Display of certain advertisements without consent

What We Can't Investigate

  • Boundary or party wall disputes
  • Covenant or deed disputes
  • Obstruction of a highway
  • Right-to-light issues

Information we need from you

When making a complaint by email or post please ensure you include the following information

  • Your Name, address, phone number or email.  We use these details to notify you of the outcome of our investigations.  However we may investigate anonymous complaints
  • Site Details (Give as much detail as you can, especially where the breach relates to a piece of land)
  • Details of the alleged breach
  • Date the alleged breach commenced
  • The impact of the breach
  • Whether or not the impact of the breach finished, continuing or getting worse
  • Date of complaint

What we do with your complaint

  • We will acknowledge your complaint within 5 days. You will be given the name of the Planning
    Investigation Officer dealing with the matter.
  • We will carry out an investigation as soon as is possible, but priority will be given to unauthorised
    works which need to be dealt with quickly before work becomes advanced.
  • We will inform you of the outcome of our investigations.
