‘Having housing suitable for local people’ is one of the
Council’s four corporate priorities. Housing has links with
all of the three other corporate priorities – promoting and
maintaining a thriving and diverse local economy, caring for our
environment, and developing safer and stronger communities.
Tunbridge Wells Borough Council provides housing services to the
people of the Borough of Tunbridge Wells from its offices at the
Town Hall, Royal Tunbridge Wells, and from the Tunbridge Wells
Gateway at 8 Grosvenor Road, Royal Tunbridge Wells.
The Council no longer directly owns housing following the
transfer of its housing stock in 1992 to High Weald Housing
Association, a not-for-profit Housing Association and now Town
& Country Housing Group. However, the Council has rights to a
percentage of Housing Association vacancies, maintains a Housing
Register and gives help and advice to those who are homeless or in
housing need.
In addition, the Council provides advice and assistance to those
in Private Sector Housing, as well as working with other agencies
to ensure that new affordable homes are provided in the Borough to
meet local housing needs.
Housing Services work closely with the Council’s Legal,
Financial and Planning & Development Services, and externally
with our Housing Association partners, private landlords and a wide
range of other statutory and voluntary agencies and partnerships
both within the Borough and across Kent.
